Movies are not only a form of entertainment, they can be considered a lifestyle. When you watch a movie there are many different places and situations that people in. And those situations may strike a cord with you and you may feel that you are like them, or want to be like them, or act like them.

I don't doubt that film-makers use familiarity in their stories to grab the viewers attention. I've seen lots of movies that I can relate to some aspects of my life. Film-makers are people too (well, most of them). It's one of many ways to bring in more ticket sales.
![]() There are some exceptions, of course. I highly question the subtle message L. Ron Hubbard was trying to make with his Battlefield Earth saga. Them damn Scientologists!!! ![]() |

Funny you should mention mind control though. It has been recently discovered that fox new 5 was using subliminal images of John Mccain and his wife. It makes one wonder how long this has been going on and what tv stations are using them and for what reason. It would be interesting if someone where to start looking at different broadcasts and tv ads to see if they contain subliminal messages of any sort. Wasn't subliminal messages outlawed like 20 - 30 years ago? I know drive-in and movie theaters were doing this years ago to boost their popcorn and candy sales. |

I'm not sure if they were actually outlawed or illegalized or anything like that. But I don't think anybody would take these types of messages seriously, as in "not serious enough" for any sort of government body to take action. |

The FCC outlawed subliminal messages for both radio and television in 1974.
Subliminal Messages Food Network Subliminal Advertising? Not My Story btw. I was watching the end of today's (1/21/07) Iron Chef and noticed the screen quickly blink red. A few seconds later I start thinking, "Was that the McDonalds logo...?" Thanks to the magic of my Dish Network DVR, I rewind, and put it in to slow motion. Sure enough, Food Network is allowing McDonalds to run subliminal advertisements in the middle of their programming! YouTube - Food Network Subliminal Advertising? ------------------------------------------------------------------ So i would say that even though the use of subliminal messages has been outlawed, many tv broadcasts are still using them. |

I think it's more a form of "non-living". You aren't actually living it, although it can toy with your emotions, teach, advertise, dictate, inform, etc. If you are a critic it could be considered a form of living, but I always thought that to "live" something, you actually do it, and not just watch other people doing it. So yeah, Movies & TV is NOT a form of living, it's a form of entertainment.
